Senator Martin Encourages Local Residents to Test for Radon

HARRISBURG – Senator Scott Martin (R-13) is encouraging community residents to test their home for Radon as part of national Radon Action Month in January.

Radon is a colorless and odorless gas that occurs naturally from the breakdown of uranium in soil and rocks. It enters the home through cracks in the foundation and other openings. Radon is the second-leading cause of lung cancer in the country.

More information about radon, including lists of certified radon testers and mitigation services, is available by clicking on the “Radon Gas in Pennsylvania” link on the Department of Environmental Protection’s website at www.dep.pa.gov. The Department’s Radon Division may be contacted toll-free at (800) 237-2366 or by email at ra-epbrpenvprt@pa.gov.
