HARRISBURG – Rep. Bryan Cutler (R-Peach Bottom) and Sen. Scott Martin (R-Lancaster) announced today that Martic Township will receive a grant of $250,000 from the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA) to help in the rehabilitation of the Martic Forge Viaduct located in Martic and Conestoga townships, Lancaster County.
“The fire that damaged this bridge was devastating for many members of our community,” said Cutler. “I’m encouraged the CFA recognized the importance of this bridge to the residents of Lancaster County. These funds will provide much-needed help to restore the bridge and bring back a popular recreation destination.”
The Martic Forge Viaduct is a former railroad bridge and was re-purposed for bicycles and pedestrians as part of the Enola Low Grade trail. Currently, the damaged viaduct leaves a gap in the trail, causing issues and delays for visitors.
“This project will support a truly unique recreation experience for visitors and community residents alike,” Martin said. “Repairs to the bridge are essential to ensure that the structure is safe for people to use. This funding will provide a critical boost in the ongoing effort to restore this important landmark and offer more opportunities for tourism and recreation in the area.”
Once repaired, the bridge will feature a 24-foot-wide deck complete with reinforced concrete and a 5-foot-high railing. The approach to the deck will also be re-graded with fencing. The total project cost is $2.4 million.
